XML Formatter
What is XML Formatter?
XML Formatter is a free online tool to beautify, minify, and validate XML documents. XML (eXtensible Markup Language) powers everything from SOAP APIs and RSS feeds to configuration files and office document formats — but it often arrives minified, machine-generated, or broken. This tool re-indents your markup into a readable tree, compresses it back to a single line when you need compact output, and validates the document structure with precise, human-readable error messages.
Features
- Beautify — Re-indent XML with 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or tabs
- Minify — Collapse the document to the smallest single-line form
- Validate — Check well-formedness: mismatched tags, unclosed elements, unterminated comments, CDATA sections, and processing instructions
- Precise errors — Every problem reported with an exact line and column
- Smart inline handling — Elements containing only text stay on one line; inline spacing in mixed content is preserved
- Full syntax support — Attributes with quoted values, comments, CDATA, DOCTYPE declarations, and processing instructions
How to use
Paste your XML into the input panel, choose Beautify, Minify, or Validate, and pick your preferred indentation. The output updates live as you type. When the document is invalid, the status bar shows exactly what went wrong and where — for example, which closing tag doesn't match its opener.
Privacy
All parsing and formatting happens entirely in your browser. Your XML is never uploaded, logged, or sent to any server.
